I felt like these two halves are leaning on each other - just like we do with our good people.

Pink Roses

'Pink Roses'  /  5x5 in  / oil on gessoed board

Hello, who might have waited for me to come back! I know that I had taken a long break from my blog. My apologies! The moving in this March had slowed me down from uploading pictures. But I am back now - it's better late than ever, right?

Although I was a bit lazy uploader, my brushes were being kept busy most of the time. There were many many "throw a ways" but there were some that I am happy to share. So here is a first piece!  It's "Pink Roses".

Whole & Half

'Whole & Half"     5x5 in       oil on gessoed board

I had 5 hours to paint. Thought that it would be plenty of time to paint 3 apples and half on 5x5" panel - I was wrong. I barely finished this painting on time. I had to rush myself  driving to my son's school to get him. I even didn't have time to wash off paints on my hands. Simple things are not simple sometimes.

Ribbon Study - Red Bow

Ribbon Study - 'Red Bow'     5x5 in     oil on Gessobord

I just tied a bow and painted it without a word in the box for study. It looks more like orange in the photo but it's actually red in person. I have been painting ribbons and bows for a week now and I am enjoying their shines, shapes and colors of them. Also it's exciting to think about which word to put inside and wrap for next painting.

Wrapped Words - 'Create'

'Wrapped Words - Create'    /      5x5 in     /    oil on Gessobord

This is first painting for wrapped words series. When I saw other artists' wrapped gifts paintings online here and there, I immediately knew that I wanted to paint them too. I always thought wrapped gifts were beautiful but I had never thought they could be great still life subjects to paint. So when I saw painted wrapped gifts, I was so excited to find a new props.  Soon I started collect small boxes and colorful ribbons: meanwhile I also started to think about what would be true meaning of gifts , what kind of gifts I would like to receive or give and what was the best gift I got so far....... these thoughts have lead me to start 'wrapped words' series and I picked 'create' for the first word.

I wrote 'Create' on paper.

and placed it in the box

wrapped it with ribbon and painted it.

I know it sounds like unnecessary work because people will only see the package but , to me,  it's meaningful that an inspiring word was there while it was being painted.

Ribbon Study - Blue Bow

'Ribbon Study - Blue Bow' /   5x5 in     / oil on Gessobord

This is another study of ribbons. The box that I used for this wrapping  is 4"x4"x4" cube but I wanted to paint top view of the blue bow. To get it's bird eye view, I had to place this wrapped box on my floor and stood up at my easel which was interesting because it was first time for me to look at floor during painting progress - new and fun !

Small Gift

'Small Gift'     5x5 in     oil on Gessobord

I have been painting wrapped gifts last weekend. I included a small wrapped gift in one of my still life paintings the other day and really enjoyed painting it. Since then, I was asking some of my friends if they could donate some of their wrapping papers, ribbons and little boxes to me. The gift-wrap in this painting is done from generous donations from my friends ( thank you ! - you know who I am talking to *wink* )

Hi everyone !   Sorry for no posting last week.  I moved into a new place and I was so busy unpacking. There were a lot of IKEA runs and sorting out (and still more) but we are almost settled into a new place and we love it !   Now I am ready to paint again and a Shaw cable guy visited us about 2 hours ago so our apartment is internet-vailable from today! (Yup, we didn't have internet access for the last week)

So here is one painting for this week. It is 5x5(in) which is little smaller than I normally do.  I am enjoying painting cracked eggs now so probably there will be more egg paintings this week.
