Cup & Silverware

6x6 in       oil on canvas board

30 in 30 challenge Day 12. Cups and white objects are very hard for me. Usually I can't get proportions for cups  right and white looks almost always muddy.  It (the cup in my painting) is white + cup so it was even harder. I finished the spoon & fork within 30 mins and spent 2 ours only painting the cup. I repeated drawing the cup and wiped out and drew it again several times until I feel okay with the cup and then painted it.   Whew.......... It was a long process, you know.....deciding what to paint, setting up composition, actual painting time and cleaning up - in total,  it took around 5 hours for this painting.   But I have learned a lot from it that I should not try to paint a cup again. ( just kidding ! I will not give up :D )

  3. The persistence was well worth it and there may be more gifts from it in the future. Doesn't Carol Marine make it look so easy?

    1. Hi Laurel, I almost gave up on the cup and thought I should just paint another set up that doen't include a cup. But I am glad that I managed to finish this painting :)

Yes, Carol Marine's paintings are amazing. Not only cups but everything she paints looks fantastic. I never get bored of looking at her works. This painting is actually one of her recommended excercise in her book "Daily Painting" on page 113. I happened to have the same color scrabooking paper in my studio and I like the color combination ( blue & green) so I decided to give it a try.

For someone who hasn't read her book, I highly recommend to read it. The book is so informative. I learned a lot from it. I joned Daily Painting Movement after reading her book. And I especially LOVE chapter 5 ( Color Mixing ). She makes color mixing sound so easy with limited palette.

    1. Hi Sue, I should thank YOU for visiting my blog. I go to your blog often to see your work. I enjoy your art. Please keep them coming.

English is my second language and I am still learning it. So my translation wouldn't be perfect but I will try. :) The Korean sentence says " .......... has shown the passion of a desire to ( do ......... )" and also it is written up side down. I hope this helps, Sue. If you found another Korean sentence for your art work and would like to know what it means, please let me know. I will be more than happy to translate it for you.

  9. I have been admiring all your work during this challenge and it never disappoints. I especially love how you've painted the nuances of blue and yellow in this painting.
