There are many books that I wish I can paint - not the actual books although I might paint them as well. What I mean by 'wish to paint books' is the story of them which is rather philosophical. How can I transform abstract contents ( the metaphor of book) into a painting ? Oh, well......it's going to be my homework. Anyway, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle was on my 'Paint the book list' and I tried to paint it by arranging small tomatoes like a caterpillar with leaves. Someday, all of us is going to turn into beautiful butterflies.

Jiyoung, not only do I like your actual painting (so much to feast my eyes on—the greens under the tomatoes especially captivate me) but also your conceptual orientation. Your word-in-a-box work calls to me, also. I feel kinship with you.
ReplyDeleteHi Dotty, good to find someone like-minded. It's really fun to convert an abstract thought into a form. If this is something that calls you, I recommend you to try it out. Maybe we can share 'book list' or 'words list' to paint and do it together. I think 'word-in-a-box' can be a good title for your project if you are interested in painting wrapped words. I once thought listing 'paint this book' as a DPW challenge but somehow I got busy and forgot to contact them. Maybe I should do it.

Jiyoung, you've got my mind hopping all over the place now, dancing a little jig of ideas. I will stay in touch with you, though today is not likely to offer up an opportunity beyond this hello of gratitude for your painting and your warmth.
